Begin in London, of course. The Sandringham Hotel in Hampstead
proved a very nice starting point.
Best pointer is to the web-cam on the Thames, near Tower Bridge and
the Tower of London:
Livesights ThamesCam! Live Video
The Tower of London was a full half-day of exploring, and should probably
have been more.
A good virtual tour is available on line at:
From London to Bristol by British Rail -- a BritRail pass is a good
thing to have.
Stayed south of Briston at Chelwood house, a very nice 17th century
counry home, converted into a bed and breakfast. Wonderful dinners,
too!
Best sights here were Wells Cathedral,
Wookey Hole (seriously! The
origin of the River Ax), and the
Fleet Air Museum at Yeovilton.
My first experience at driving in England, not a problem if you just
stay focused.
Left Bristol and attempted to park and visit the Roman baths in Bath, but traffic and parking proved impossible, so onward. Maybe next time!
The next stop was Old
Colehurst Manor, an early 17th century manor house.
The visit included a complete costume dinner (costumes provided) with
Elizabethan musicians.
Costume and dinner photos courtesy of the other guests, an extended
family celebrating birthdays and anniversaries.
Me, in Elizabethan garb,
courtesy of Lord and
Lady Teksnes of Old Colehurst Manor, the gracious proprietors.
I'm rather hidden at the head of the table. But a jolly group we were,
feasting on foods from 15th to 17th century recipes. (Including local
salmon, smoked at the manor...)
And our musicians, the Diabolus
in Musica, available for parties and concerts the year round.
