The England and Wales Vacation

May 1 through June 1, 1998

Phase Three

From Bontddu Hall, it was a very foggy drive south to the Pembrokeshire coast and Waterwynch Hotel.
How foggy?  Visibility of less than 100 feet for a large portion of the drive.  But this was the only bad weather I encountered in a month!
Waterwynch was a real find, thanks to a guidebook of hotels and B&B's in England.  You'll see below why I had to stay there:

These are from their brochure, my pictures were no better...
Again, the food was marvelous, and the location was great for more castle-hopping.

So on to Pembroke Castle, birthplace of the Tudor Dynasty.

And from the inside:

Then the Lamphey Bishop's Palace.  Was it the luxury of these palaces seen during his youth that helped convince Henry VIII to divest them?  Clearly, they were opulent to the level of anything royalty had, but now there are only ruins. (The Bishop's Palace at Wells is still used and so obviously in much better shape, but ruins are the more common fate.)
